(Answer: Water scarticy is an important issue in the Middle East because the sources of fresh water are continuing to decrease while the population continues to increase. Water may be the underlying source of the next major regional conflict in the Middle East, SS Notebook p. 24). 2.) Log HW: TEST #1 is slated for Friday September 16, 2011. Review lessons DAILY on the website to study for your upcoming TEST! Work on Study Guide or download PODCAST study guide from Edmodo. 3.) Listening Activity: On NPR there was a GREAT "audio article" called "Drought Withers Iraqi Farm and Food Supplies". This PICTURE shows how dry the grouond in Iraq is currently which is what is discussed in this story. This POWER POINT presentation goes along with the audio clip. This is approximately a 4 minute story that we listened to in class. While listening to this story, we looked at a picture of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers and Dams and discussed how Turkey and Syria are controling most of the water in these rivers by using dams. This is causing a great hardship on the Iraqi people as discussed in the radio broadcast.5.) Target: What are the components of parliamentary and presidential government?
(Answer: Parliamentary - A system of government having the real executive power held in a cabinet composed of members of the legislature who are individually and collectively responsible to the legislature. May have a Prime Minister elected by the legislature. Presidential = A system of government in which the president is constitutionally independent of the legislature. The executive branch exists separately from the legislature (to which it is generally not accountable (See Power Point Slide). (SS Notebook p. 76)

Each student will make a bulleted list of the problems and a bulleted list of the solutions and then discuss in pairs which solution would best solve each problem. Then, students will write complete sentences including their explanation. For example, "For the problem of Dry Land, the best solution would be Desalination because most dry countries have coastline on a body of water where desalination plants could be created to take the salt out of sea water leaving freshwater for the people to use.
These sentences and bulleted lists will be recorded on the Meeting Notes Form. The groups will then share and compare their findings and suggestions. The class will compile an "Action Plan" for solving the water crisis in the Middle East. The Meeting Notes Form will be glued on SS Notebook p. 22. 1.) Log HW: Study for Physical Map Quiz. Quiz is on Friday. Complete the Crossword Puzzle from last week and glue it to SS Notebook p. 10 2.) Physical Map Activity: Find and Label these 20 Physical Features on the Physical Features Outline Map. These are the 20 that will be on your quiz on Friday. Color all of the water blue, label the list of physical features on the map, color the map (Glue to SS Notebook p. 9) Wednesday September 8: 1.) Log HW: Study for Physical Map Quiz. Quiz is on Friday. Complete Physical Features Puzzle (Glue to SS Notebook p. 11) 2.) Physical Map Activity: Finish Physical Map from yesterday, cut out, and glue to p. 9 of SS Notebook.
4.) Game Activity: On SS Notebook pp. 13, 14, AND 15, number from 1-20 skipping 3 lines between each number. Draw a mystery question from the basket on the front table. Copy the question in your notebook by the corresponding number (then return the question to the basket). Find the answer and write it under the question in your notebook. There are 20 mystery questions. This is an IN CLASS game only. Good Luck!
Thursday September 9: 1.) Log Homework in Agenda: Study for your Physical Map Quiz. Quiz is tomorrow. Also, a Notebook check on pp. 1-10 is coming up soon. Make sure pp. 1-10 are ready!
2.) Partner Notes Activity: Pair up with a partner. One person has the "A Notes" A page 1, A page 2, A page 3 and the other person has the "B Notes" B page 1, B page 2, B page 3. "A" reads the first paragraph slowly and clearly to "B" while "B" fills in the blanks. Then, "B" reads the next paragraph to "A" while "A" fills in the blanks. This back and forth process continues until each partner has a full set of notes. We then discussed these notes as a class and highlighted important notes. Glue notes to SS Notebook p. 16. 3.) Finish Game from Yesterday.

Then, write 1-2 sentences comparing and contrasting what you think your strengths and weaknesses are to what your test results show.
